Fall 2006
Hodge Inaugural celebrated
In October, the Miami University community joined together to celebrate the inauguration of Miami’s 21st president, David C. Hodge.
The event began with a processional to Millett Assembly Hall. Nearly 1,000 people witnessed the event, including President Emeritus Phillip Shriver and Martha Shriver, President Emeritus James Garland and Carole Garland, and Winifred Pearson, the widow of President Emeritus Paul Pearson.
Hodge cited two leadership campaign gifts in his Inaugural Address. He discussed the impact of the recently announced $10.5 million commitment by Joyce ’57 and Roger ’57 Howe (see story on page 8) and said the Howe Center for Writing Excellence will not only benefit students, but will help faculty teach students to use writing as a learning tool.
Hodge also referred to a $5 million gift from Mike Armstrong ’61 and the Armstrong Family Foundation that is designated to improve technology and other programs on campus.
