Thirty-five Years and
Counting ...
Calling all Westerners from
'29 to '09: Come to be counted and help us count the years, as we kick off our
year-long anniversary celebration the weekend of June 19-21. We'll honor former
faculty and founding trustees. AND, we'll hear a concert on the newly restored
organ in Kumler! Get more information, see who's coming or register
online, here!
Aiming High
But they deserve it! The 35th
Anniversary Reunion Gift will endow a Western College Professorship in tribute
to our wonderful Western faculty. It will be established in Miami's Department
of History and awarded to outstanding professors working in women's history
and/or public history and/or the history of social justice. EVERY alumna is
encouraged to be part of this, at ANY level. Go here
to read more and/or make your gift!
Miami Invites Us
Coming to the
Western reunion? If so, Miami has created two days of Classes
without Quizzes to which all Westerners are invited
... no fees, no
pre-registration! Bringing your spouse? If so, you can join
Miamians and be in the Guinness World Record for most couples
simultaneously renewing their wedding vows. Learning and fun make for a great
reunion bonus ... hope you'll come!
Newsworthy and Noteworthy
Whether our alums are making
headlines
or making art,
their achievements are turning heads and winning awards. Read about Sylvia
Swartz '66 and Leslie Bowman '78 in the news; view the paintings of Lusandre
Chaudruc '66 and photographs of Jimi Allen '96 in the galleries.
Architectural Facelifts
Presser Hall has undergone a
complete transformation; Kumler Chapel has a new roof, but is still the site of
the Western Program’s traditional graduation ceremony. The Patterson Place
porch is three years old and looking good! All our Western
campus buildings are busy during the school year and will figure in the
All-Western Reunion activities this June.
Western Recall
Several Western alums
returned to campus this semester to present programs sponsored by the WCAA, the
Archives, the Miami libraries, and various MU departments. Their stories and
comments on their Western experience have been carefully "caught on
tape" and will be preserved in Archives.
Trustees at Work and Play
At the three board meetings
each year, every attempt is made to mix business with pleasure. To that end, we
make sure to invite students to join trustees between meetings and urge trustees
to attend special campus
events when possible.
