Happy
Holidays ...
... to all. And we wish you the best of everything for 2006!
Counting Down the Days?
Put away those stacks of confusing catalogs and think Western!
Believe it or not, there's still time to order this year from our WCAA
Gift Shop.
Another Kind of Deadline
Don't procrastinate any longer. Start the New Year with a good feeling by
going to the secure web site and making
your gift to the Annual Fund today.
(Our online giving service is provided by Miami: to direct your gift to the
Western College Alumnae Association, go to that box and enter your gift
amount. To direct your gift to the Western Program, enter your gift amount in
the Annual Fund box, then go to the Special Requests box and write Western
Program. Credit cards are accepted until 9 a.m. on December 31.) THANK YOU!
Western Headliners
On the Record: Still sculpting after all these years! Sandra Chanis '68 is
included in the prestigious Fallbrook exhibition.
And congratulations to Sheila Curran '78! Her first novel comes out to great
reviews and goes immediately into a second printing.
Off the Wire: Lest Western friends (those who may not know her very well)
think Donna Shalala '62 has faded from view, resting on her laurels
(Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Secretary of the
Department of Health and Human Services under President Clinton, President of
the University of Miami – to name a few), think again! She was picked as one
of "America's 25 Best Leaders" by U.S. News & World Report.
And while we're at it, we'd like to claim Western bragging rights to author of
Bird Watching for Dummies and editor of Bird Watcher's Digest
Bill Thompson '84, who has received an award from the Ohioana Library
Association.
Western Happenings
With the WCAA: You're invited to hear The Princely Players, a vocal
ensemble, who will come to town in January under the auspices of the WCAA.
Picture yourselves as vicarious hosts to the 13 scholarship recipients who
enjoyed the WCAA's holiday hospitality in early December.
From the Archives: The WCMA on display – in picture exhibits at MU's main
library and posters across the campus during the month of November. Now they
know where we live!
Around the Campus: Freedom Summer '64 revisited – in a series of lectures
during first semester. One speaker, in particular, knew whereof she spoke:
Chude Allen was one of the voter registration volunteers trained on the
Western campus that summer.
