Let It Snow
Oxford is ready for winter! Students buckle down for finals and anticipate
the holiday break. And the WCAA
Gift Shop, stocked full of old and new items, is (always) open for
business, even from afar!
Update on WCP
After several months of study, the Miami Faculty Senate recommended that
the Western Program become a department in the College of Arts and Sciences
and remain on the Western Campus. See full report
here. Absent a challenge by Faculty Assembly, these policies will be
forwarded to the president and the board of trustees for consideration. The
next scheduled meeting of the board of trustees is February 9. In the
meantime, seniors are working furiously on their senior projects; if you wish
to help in any way, feel free to
contact them.
Western students, faculty and friends gathered in the Lodge for a belated
Thanksgiving dinner and much fun was had by all! Last week, the WCAA had a
gathering at Patterson Place for our scholarship students celebrating the end
of first semester. More at

Update on WCAA
The trustees also celebrated, at their fall meeting. This time, it was the
arrival of Miami's new president,
David
Hodge, who was invited to speak at lunch on Friday. On Saturday, the vice
president and provost,
Jeffrey Herbst, spoke to the WCAA international scholarship students. More

Western Around the World at Reunion
We will celebrate Western's international focus this summer at Reunion,
June 15-17. In addition to honoring the wonderful 5-year anniversary classes
from 1932 through 2002, we are inviting ALL alums who came to Western from
other countries to return for a GRAND INTERNATIONAL REUNION! To learn more,
as well as to answer the roll call, go to

Who's Who
An eminent authority on Turkish and Islamic art, as well as a prolific
writer and editor, Esin Aka Atil '58 recently donated her personal collection
to Koc University in Istanbul. We provide a glimpse of a particularly
beautiful book she authored. Alice Wondrak Biel '92 has just published her
first book. Also a writer and editor -- but in a different world -- Alice
works for the National Parks Service. Her book is all about Yellowstone's
bears and the people they've fascinated through the years. More at

Maliha Zulfacar '70 has this year become her native country's ambassador to
Germany. Her appointment is anything but routine: She is the first woman ever
to be appointed ambassador from her country -- Afghanistan. Jewelle Johnson
'94 is a rising star in her profession and has the awards to prove it;
Jewelle's an attorney with a national law firm in Atlanta. More at

Deja Vu
Who wouldn't like to read a WWII Round-Up editorial, look at a
movie ad for what was playing at the Miami-Western in the '50s, or recall the
results of a 1960s GA election? Now you can read old Round-Ups online.
