FROM THE ARCHIVES

We welcome new archivist Jacky Johnson, who replaced retiring Diane Kaufman in December.

A native of South Carolina, Jacky has a B.A. in English from Limestone College in Gaffney, South Carolina, and a master's in library and information science from the University of South Carolina, Columbia. After working for a time at Horry-Georgetown Technical College in Myrtle Beach, she came to Miami in 1991. She belongs to several professional organizations and currently serves as secretary of the Academic Library Association of Ohio.

As she continues to immerse herself in our past, Western's new archivist has this message for alums: "I ask that you continue to donate materials that would help to mark the history of Western College for Women and the Western College Program."

Do you remember this face? If so, write Jacky Johnson at westernarchives@muohio.edu.

For want of positive identification, we are referring to it as the "Dante" bust. It is pictured below in the 1968 Multifaria.
Discovered by Miami custodian Gary Donaldson in a pile of rubble in McKee's basement, the bust was cleaned up and "unveiled" during a tour for Friends of the Miami Library, hosted by Western archivist Jacky Johnson. The tour was preceded by a lecture by former WCP dean Curt Ellison on the history of Western.
