Artist Lusandre Chaudruc '66 has painted a picture instantly recognizable to all Western alums; she calls it Swan Pond and may reproduce it in note cards. Popular locally for her local and long distance coastal scene works, Lusandre exhibits extensively and has garnered a number of awards -- among them, Best of Show awarded by the director of design at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for her photo silkscreen and embossing in a show at the Mamaroneck Artists Guild.

After years as a photojournalist, Jimi Allen '96 branched out into photography, video, and design, and today Jimi Allen Productions in Aurora, Illinois, is servicing visual communication projects for corporate and not-for-profit clients that include Chicagoland Regional Tourism Development Office, Dow Chemical, Tyndale House Publishers, Christianity Today magazine, and various international mission agencies. A native of Middletown, Ohio, Jimi graduated in 1997 with a B.S. in botany in addition to his B.Phil. in interdisciplinary studies -- having completed his senior project, A Naturalist Guide to the West Coast of Andros Island, the Bahamas (a photo-journal and naturalist observations) under the guidance of Professor Bill Newell.

She grew up in Chappaqua , New York , and now lives in Norwalk , Connecticut , where she has operated her own textile design studio for 30 years. Among her clients are such well-known names as Ralph Lauren, Chanel, Jones of New York, and Sesame Street. During her four years at Western, she did an intensive with sculptor Louise Nevelson, graduating with a degree in drawing and painting. She then returned to Chappaqua to teach art at Horace Greeley High School and attend the School of Visual Arts and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Lusandre also has 10 years experience in set design and mural painting in various locations and, in addition to her painting, is currently involved in real estate -- buying houses to renovate, then selling or renting them. www.LusandreLeeChaudruc.com

Though Jimi has produced a wide range of traditional work, including magazine covers and content, sophisticated wedding photography, professional studio work, documentaries, and product photography, he has made his reputation as a storyteller with film. He has won numerous awards for his work, which one art critic -- citing his humanistic portrayals -- has compared to Edward Steichen's iconic exhibit and book, The Family of Man. Believing that "photographers are communicators," Jimi sees the art of photography as a "byproduct of curiosity." His has led him all over the world and into the hearts and souls of his subjects. http://www.jimiallen.com
