Liberal Education (Miami Plan)

There are multiple types of liberal education or Miami Plan courses. The new Miami Plan which will begin fall 2023 includes these courses:

  • Perspectives which fall into several categories:
    • Arts and Humanities (Creative Arts; Humanities)
    • Science and Society (Biological Science; Physical Science; Social Science)
    • Formal Reasoning and Communication (English Composition, Advanced Writing; Formal Reasoning and Mathematics)
    • Global Citizenship (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Intercultural Consciousness; Global Inquiry)
  • Signature Inquiry Courses (featuring active learning, inquiry-based, interdisciplinary approaches)
  • Knowledge in Action Courses which include Capstone Courses & Experiential Learning Courses or Experiences

All Miami Plan courses must undergo approval by the Liberal Education Council at least one semester in advance of when you plan to offer it. Visit the Office of Liberal Education for proposal forms and information.
