4-19-19 Weekly Three

Colleagues,

The 25th annual Undergraduate Research Forum is Tuesday, April 23 (panel discussions) and Wednesday, April 24 (student poster sessions) in Shriver Center. Information about panel discussions, a schedule and a sampling of projects can be found here. I hope you are able to drop by the events to learn more about and to discuss their research projects with our student researchers.

Here is this week’s Three plus one:

Senate Update – University Senate Executive Committee and Senate have a very busy and important spring agenda. In particular, they are discussing the work to date and timeline of the Ad Hoc Committee on Faculty Composition, several MUPIM policy updates and edits to T/TT and TCPL dossier guidelines. They have also heard presentations from Senior Vice President David Creamer about the University’s budget, Senior Vice President Tom Herbert regarding Miami’s capital campaign and Vice President Jayne Brownell regarding the priorities and goals of the Division of Student Affairs.

I urge you to communicate with your Senator about the changes or policies being discussed and information provided, or review the Senate minutes and agendas posted on the Senate website.

Convocation and Summer Reading Program – Convocation for the 2019-20 academic year will be held on Sunday, August 25th (3:00 pm). This year’s speaker will be Stephanie Anderson, author of the Summer Reading Program book, One Size Fits None: A Farm Girl's Search for the Promise of Regenerative Agriculture.

The success of the Summer Reading Program depends on the participation of faculty and staff to serve as book discussion facilitators. This year’s book discussions will occur Friday, August 23 (11:15 am), following Miami’s various Colleges’ and the Farmer School’s Welcome for new students. You can find details about the Summer Reading Program, the role of discussion facilitator and a link to sign up here.

Grant Opportunity – The Center for Career Exploration and Success (CCES) is launching the second round of Miami’s Career Collaborative for Fall 2019 - an initiative intended to strengthen connections with faculty on the Oxford campus. Faculty may apply for funding to support career-related programs and events through their CCES Career Grants. The deadline for grant submission is April 29. You can find details and a link to submit proposals here.

Reminders:

  • Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE), coordinated through Miami’s Office of Institutional Research (OIR), and that relates closely to the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) survey sent to Miami students. We ask that you take a few minutes to complete the survey. Faculty should use the link to the survey (unique to each recipient) included in the email you received from Cathy Bishop-Clark (Regionals) or me (Oxford campus) during the week of April 4. If you did not receive an email or have questions about the survey, please contact the Office of Institutional Research at institutionalresearch@miamioh. edu.

  • Faculty Assembly will be held on May 7, 2019 (4:15 pm) 102 Benton Hall.

Until next week,

Phyllis
