AMS 111 Religion and Popular Culture (3)

Examines various ways in which religious themes (myth, ritual, spirituality, morality, community) can be found in television shows, films, music, the internet, and other pop culture venues. While noting the complexity of the concepts of "religion" and "popular culture," we will analyze the ways in which American popular culture represents, critiques, and shapes religion. As we proceed, we will also discover how cultural factors can determine whether or not we perceive religious themes and issues at play in American popular culture.
