Canvas Training Schedule

Canvas Basics Training

Audience: Faculty / Staff / Graduate Students
Objective:
Participants will learn to: Navigate Canvas, Customize Settings, Add content to Canvas, Use the Gradebook 
Description:
In this 90 minute session you will learn how to access Canvas, customize the Dashboard, find your Course, set Notifications, organize the Navigation Menu and use the Canvas Guides. You will practice uploading and adding content to Announcements, Pages, Assignments, Discussions, Quizzes, and Files. You will learn basic gradebook features and navigation.
Make sure you have access to at least one Canvas course as a teacher. If you need access to a course as a teacher please contact Elizabeth Farrar at farrarem@miamioh.edu before the date of the session.

This is a hands-on session so come prepared with your computer!

Canvas Rubrics and Grading

Audience: Faculty / Staff / Graduate Students
Recommended Prerequisites
Canvas Basics Training
Objective:
Participants will learn how to: Create assignment groups; Set up weighted averages; Modify assignments using the properties; Add a rubric; Submit as “test student” a document to the assignment, complete the quiz, and post to the discussion; and Utilize SpeedGrader to grade “test student” submissions.

Session Pre-work - Required activity: Before coming to this session please add one of each of these to your course: assignment; quiz; and discussion. (Refer to the Canvas Guides or attend Canvas Basics Training if you have questions about adding content to Canvas.)

Description:
In this fast moving 60 minute session you will: Create assignment groups; Set up weighted averages; Modify assignments using the properties; Add a rubric; Submit as “test student” a document to the assignment, complete the quiz, and post to the discussion; and Utilize SpeedGrader to grade “test student” submissions. Please bring with you (electronically or on paper) any rubrics that you currently use. Rubric samples will be provided in case you do not currently use rubrics. This is a hands-on session so come prepared with your computer!

Canvas - Set up your Gradebook

Audience: Faculty / Staff / Graduate Students

Objective:
Participants will: Set up gradebook to calculate grades, Set up weighted grades, Message students from the gradebook, send grades to Banner.
Description:
Tired of spending valuable time and energy calculating your student grades? Let us show you how to set up your gradebook in Canvas to do the calculations for you. In this session you will: Enter grades into the gradebook, Set up weighted averages (if you use them), message students directly from the gradebook, and receive a handout on submitting grades directly to Banner. Please bring with you (electronically or on paper) a list of assignments that need to be entered into the gradebook.

This is a hands-on session so come prepared with your computer!

Canvas Groups and Peer Review

Audience: Faculty / Staff / Graduate Students
Recommended Prerequisites: 
Canvas Basics Training
Objective:
Participants will learn how to set up group assignments, view group interactions, and grade group assignments. Participants will also learn how to manage peer review assignments in Canvas. 
Description:
In this 60 minute session, you will learn strategies and best practices as you set up, manage, view, and grade group assignments in Canvas. You will also learn how to create and manage peer review assignments. This session is designed for users who know how to navigate Canvas and have content in their course. This is a hands-on session so come prepared with your computer!

Teaching with Canvas Drop-In Help

Audience: Faculty / Staff / Graduate Students

This drop-in help lab is an opportunity for you to work on your course in Canvas with an Instructional Designer (ID) on site to answer questions. Although this is not a training session, brief training demonstrations can be requested on topics including accessibility, analytics, adding multimedia, groupwork, peer review, rubrics, mastery paths, etc.

This is a hands-on session so come prepared with your computer!

Prior experience using Canvas is recommended.
Maximum participant registration for each session is four (4). If you are unable to attend your scheduled session please cancel your registration to open the session for another faculty.

Canvas Proctorio Training

Audience: Faculty / Staff / Graduate Students
Recommended Prerequisites:
Canvas Basics Training
Objective:
Participants will learn to get set up to use Proctorio, select Proctorio to proctor a Canvas quiz, select exam and behavior settings, access the proctorio gradebook, and communicate the requirements to students.
Description:
In this 60 minute hands-on session, you will get up and running with Proctorio, Miami University's exam proctoring system. You will learn how to set up your course quizzes and exams to meet your specific exam or quiz setting, whether in a classroom or online. Participants will also learn what requirements they need to communicate to their students.

This is a hands-on session so come prepared with your computer!

Skills To Be Attained:
Set up computer environment for Proctorio, enable Proctorio for a Canvas quiz, select proctoring settings, access the Proctorio gradebook.

Discuss the planning and implementation of outcomes in your course to track the student mastery of each outcome. See a demonstration on how grading student work automatically collects and compiles data on the outcomes. Examine how the learning mastery gradebook can identify at-risk students, support teaching improvement, and the accreditation process.

Rev-Up Student Engagement with Peer Review in Canvas
Identify strategies to enable students to learn from each other as they provide feedback on other students’ assignment submissions. Learn to create and manage peer review assignments, discussions or group projects.
