Asian/Asian American Studies
(18 semester hours)
This minor provides a critical understanding of important issues connecting and affecting Asia and communities of Asian decent in the U.S. and in the diasporas. Its innovative course of study moves beyond object-oriented area studies and nationalistic identity politics to feature transnational and transcultural approaches to the following:
- political-economic relations
- historical and socio-cultural formations
- ethno-linguistic and religious practices
- literary and artistic representations
A minimum 2.0 g.p.a. is required for all courses in this minor, which must be taken for a grade (not credit/no-credit). Completion of this minor satisfies the Thematic Sequence requirement of the Miami Plan. Interested students should consult with the chief program adviser.
