Latin American, Latino/a, and Caribbean Studies
(21 semester hours)
Open to all students, the Latin American, Latino/a, and Caribbean Studies (LAS) minor is a valuable complement to a wide range of majors. LAS minors must complete SPN 202 or POR 211. Students whose studies include a focus on the French Carribean may petition to fulfill the languages requirement with FRN 202, and students who have completed two years of French and one year of Spanish or Portuguese may petition to get their work recognized as fulfilling the LAS language requirement. All students must complete 6 of the 18 required credit hours in classes outside their major and outside their second minor, if applicable.
A minimum 2.0 g.p.a. is required for all courses in this minor. Courses must be taken for a grade (not credit/no-credit). Completion of a minor in Latin American, Latino/a, and Caribbean Studies satisfies the Thematic Sequence requirement of the Global Miami Plan. You must officially enroll in the program by declaring your intent with an LAS adviser.
