Health and Well-Being

Three students walking out of Bachelor HallIf you get sick while living on campus, you can visit Miami's Student Health Services (SHS). Located at 421 S. Campus Ave., the Health Services Center is is an outpatient facility staffed by physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and medical assistants offering primary care, gynecology, urgent care, and immunization services. SHS also provides laboratory, x-ray, and pharmacy services for students seen at the Health Services Center. (Transportation is also provided for ill or injured students by calling 513-529-2277.) If you need care when the health service is closed, or if you need emergency care, you go to Oxford's McCullough-Hyde Hospital, which is only a short distance from campus.

All services provided by SHS (except for anonymous HIV testing) are billed to the student's health insurance company; any co-pay required may be made with Visa or MasterCard or charged to the student's bursar bill. To ensure that you have health coverage, a charge for health insurance (purchased through an independent company) is included on your bursar bill. You may already be covered by your parents' policy, however. If so, you can waive this charge, and your account will be credited. You'll get more information on that with your bill for fall semester.

Counseling

A variety of other resources are available to ensure students' well-being, including Miami's Student Counseling Service and Oxford's Community Counseling & Crisis Center, which provides a free and confidential 24-hour hotline to assist callers facing a wide variety of concerns (513-523-4146). Medical transportation to the Health Services Center is also provided for ill or injured students by calling 513-529-2277.

Disabilities

The Office of Disability Resources provides services for students with physical disabilities. This office ensures that students with disabilities will have the appropriate accommodations in programs offered by the university.

The Bernard B. Rinella, Jr. Learning Center provides services for students with learning disabilities. Staff coordinate university and community resources to meet both the academic and personal needs of students with learning disabilties and attention deficit disorders.

Religious Organizations and Churches

Students of any denomination will find services available through Miami's student religious organizations. In addition to worship services, these programs offer counseling, fellowship, scripture study, prayer groups, and community service projects.
