College Entrance Testing

Miami requires official scores on the ACT or the SAT Reasoning Test. The only exception is if you are at least 22 years of age and have been out of high school five or more years. Miami also accepts ACT and SAT scores from tests taken under non-standard conditions. Miami does not consider SAT Subject Tests in our admission review. Miami accepts only test scores reported directly from the testing agencies.

We strongly urge you to take these tests as early as possible. Official test scores from your junior year are acceptable; however, if you have tested more than once, you should see that your best scores are sent. For admission and review purposes, no preference is given for ACT or SAT, and Miami uses the highest test scores submitted. For ACT, the best composite score is used; for SAT, the best Critical Reading and Math sub-scores are used.

Applicants from the U.S. who believe their English language skills have affected their Standardized Test Scores have the option of submitting the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). This will be considered supplementary information to other standardized tests.

Writing Exam

The ACT/SAT writing exam is not required. 

Test Dates

If you are applying for Early Decision or Early Action, please plan to test early. We cannot make a decision on your application without test scores. For calendar dates, registration deadlines, and fees, visit the ACT or the College Board (SAT). Consideration for merit scholarships will be based on official test scores Miami has received as of March 1, 2013 for Fall 2013 applicants.
