Interview With Dr. Hefner

Bob Hefner, son of renowned field zoologist, Dr. Robert Hefner (Miami University professor from 1925-1985 and for whom our museum is named), tells stories of his father’s passion for nature, science, and the environment. According to his son, Doc Hefner was an "omnivorous collector." One story, featured in our audio clip, tells how a 3’ x almost 2’ giant clam shell—one of the largest specimens in our mollusc collection—was once used as a birdbath on the Hefner family’s front porch.
