Biographical Sketch

Shahla is a Senior Research Scholar at Scripps Gerontology Center and Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Gerontology, both at Miami University. Her research expertise is in estimating prevalence of disability and examining health and long-term services and supports utilization patterns of people with a disability. With a background in economics and a keen interest in the population with a disability, most of her research and interests are in financing long-term care services, from the perspectives of a consumer, a provider, and a state.

Honors/Awards

March 2003 awarded Women Breaking Barriers’ Award, by Miami University community for personal commitment, volunteer efforts and support and appreciation of the work of other women to improve the quality of life for everyone.

March 2009 awarded the 2009 Recipient of the Distinguished Researcher of the Year award; granted by the Ohio Association of Gerontology and Education
