Upcoming talk on Kalmyk Buddhism

On Friday, January 29, Miami postdoctoral fellow Ted Holland will give a talk titled "To the Golden Abode: Kalmyk Buddhism in History, Minority, and Diaspora." Dr. Holland's talk will run from 11:30-12:50 in 209 Harrison Hall.

Dr. Holland is a visiting assistant professor in Miami's Department of Global and Intercultural Studies, as well as a postdoctoral fellow in the Havighurst Center for Russian and Post-Soviet Studies (with which our department's Scott Kenworthy is affiliated). His talk will focus on religious revival among the Kalmyks, an ethnic group in Russia who belong predominantly to the Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism. The Kalmyks are the only majority-Buddhist ethnic group in Europe.
