Majors

Two majors and combined degree offered through the Department of Geology and Environmental Earth Science

Bachelor of Arts (AB) in Geology (48 hours) 
Bachelor of Science (BS) in Geology 
(63 hours)

  • strong curriculum in geology (core + electives + cognate)
  • prepares students for further graduate work in the geosciences, as well as careers in the environmental industry, petroleum, mining, government, or education
  • requires core of geology classes and cognate courses common to geology programs throughout Ohio and the US, including a capstone field mapping experience
  • BS requires additional geology elective and additional courses in chemistry, physics and mathematics or statistics
  • BS requires an independent research experience and presentation


Bachelor of Arts (AB) in Environmental Earth Science (48 hours)

  • strong curriculum in geology and allied disciplines
  • designed for students interested in Earth systems and processes and in applying geoscience pursuits to environmental issues, problems and solutions
  • core of introductory geosciences, environmental sciences, and surficial geology and hydrogeology with electives tailored to address environmental themes, teach tools of environmental science or that are otherwise cross-disciplinary in nature
  • requires cognate courses in chemistry, physics, mathematics or statistics, the life sciences and economics

Bachelor/Master of Arts in Geology (69-78 hours)

  • strong curriculum in geology (core + electives + cognate)
  • prepares students for further graduate work in the geosciences, as well as careers in earth science education and environmental consulting
  • requires core of geology classes and cognate courses common to geology programs throughout Ohio and the US, including a capstone field mapping experience
  • requires 30 additional hours beyond the Bachelors with a minimum of 15 taken from at least 4 sub-disciplines with Geology and Environmental Earth Science and minimum of 12 must be at or above the 600 level.
