JRN class to cover peace accord anniversary

A capstone class will help to mark the 20th anniversary of the agreement that stopped a war between Bosnian, Croat and Serb forces in the Balkans of Southeastern Europe. It was hammered out at Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton in the fall of 1995.

Senior Lecturer Patti Newberry and Bill Steiden of the Dayton Daily News are teaching a class, which will interview witnesses and veterans of the war. Miami also will have a conference about the Dayton Peace Accords on campus Nov. 18. Here is the story about the accords from the Dayton Daily News.

Provost honors two MJF students

Two MJF students were among the honorees of the 2015 Provost's Student Academic Achievement Award for their outstanding contributions to Miami University's intellectual environment.

Monica Komer, international studies and journalism double major from Canton. She studied abroad in Dubai, where she was a recipient of the William Jefferson Clinton Scholarship at the American University in Dubai.

Jessie Motts, creative writing and media and culture double major and master’s of French from Canton. She had an internship with FilmEngine LA in Beverly Hills, California, and is one of Miami’s Altman Undergraduate Fellows.

2014 Journalism graduate Emily Crane

2014 Journalism graduate Emily Crane wrote a story about Egypt’s war on charity for foreignpolicy.com. She had some help on the article by a fellow former Miami student Ahmed Al Khateeb, who studied for one semester in Oxford, Ohio in the spring of 2014.
