Inside Washington Students

Inside Washington

On this site you will find information about the Inside Washington Summer and Spring programs. If you have questions about either program, please contact Dr. Howard Kleinman in 150 Williams Hall.

The Miami University Washington, D.C., Center offers students a unique "inside the beltway" experience each spring semester and summer term.

About 18 students - mainly in Journalism, Media and Culture, and Political Science - are chosen to participate in the summer eight-week, eight-credit-hour course, while about 14 are selected for the semester-long workshop.

The first portion of both Inside Washington courses brings guest speakers, cool field trips and D.C. lectures, offering special insights into Washington politics, media and government. Students have visited the West Wing of the White House, the Pentagon, the CIA, numerous legislators' offices, and media outlets including CNN, C-SPAN, and National Public Radio.

Past guest speakers include former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and Sen. Maria Cantwell, Democrat of Washington, who is a Miami grad.

The second portion of the course is a Washington internship in the student's area of interest. Students have interned with members of Congress, government agencies, and media outlets, including NBC's Meet the Press, Roll Call magazine and Fox News.

The program focuses on topics in Political Science, Communications, and Journalism; however, it is open to undergraduate and graduate students from any major or academic division.
