Psychology and Human Behavior

You will explore individual, group, cultural, and societal influences on human thinking and behavior, and use different approaches and methods to study such topics as child development, abnormal behavior, prejudice, intercultural conflict, inequality, and social institutions.

Program Opportunities

  • Make the most of your psychology major and prepare for your future by utilizing the Center for Psychological Inquiry for statistics and methods help, workshops, and drop-in advising
  • Mentor with faculty in service learning, internships, and hands-on applied research in laboratories and in the field
  • Endeavor to present your research at meetings of professional organizations
  • Join national honorary society chapters such as Psi Chi (psychology), Nu Rho Psi (neuroscience), Sigma Phi Omega (gerontology), or Alpha Phi Sigma (criminology)
  • Apply for university-wide awards, such as Dean's Scholars, Provost's Scholars, and Undergraduate Summer Scholars
  • Get involved in Miami's Social Action Center, which supports student service and offers opportunities in a range of community projects, and the Scripps Gerontology Center, which draws on several different disciplines in its focus on making a difference in the lives of aging individuals and serves as a resource to Ohio’s policy makers and service providers
  • Become an active participant in the Miami University Speech and Hearing Clinic, where Speech Pathology and Audiology majors learn clinical methods, observe speech and language evaluations, and eventually plan and implement therapy sessions
