Carly MungovanProvost Academic Achievement Award

The Provost Academic Achievement Award, given annually to students who have achieved an outstanding record of academic excellence, was awarded to Senior Theatre Major, Carly Mungovan for her outstanding contribution to Miami through her impressive creative profile and her work with the Wilks Leadership Institute.

In the Department of Theatre, Carly has shown excellent leadership throughout the production season as a stage manager and, this semester, as the only undergraduate stage director of the 2014-15 season in which she will direct The Little Dog Laughed by Douglas Carter Beane.  As the director, Carly will carefully analyze the script and work with designers and actors to craft her vision of the production.

As the Wilks Leadership Institute Leadership Development Specialist, she developed four interactive leadership workshops that focus on eight key leadership characteristics. Mungovan uses theatre principles and techniques combined with the values of the institute to create an exciting new approach to the leadership workshops on campus. These workshops are open to students who want to gain leadership skills for their futures.

In addition, Carly has won several awards and honors. In April, she was selected as the student speaker for the Women in Leadership Conference at Miami where she stated “For me, my passions are leadership and the arts…it is through my passions I feel I have begun to make my mark in the Miami community as a whole.”

With her passion to guide her, Mungovan hopes to create a successful future for herself as a Miami Alumnus.
