Welcome from the Dean

Elizabeth Reitz Mullenix, Dean

“The Possible’s slow fuse is lit by the Imagination.”
                                                           ~Emily Dickinson

Welcome to the College of Creative Arts! Within this website you can find information about all of the many ways you can experience the arts at Miami University. The College houses four exceptional departments (Architecture + Interior Design, Art, Music, and Theatre), each with multiple degree programs, as well as a B.A. in Interactive Media Studies (including game design and web design). In addition to our accredited academic programs that include immersive studio programs, as well as academic and education degrees, the CCA is also home to the Performing Arts Series and the Miami University Art Museum—both bringing world-class performing and visual artists to our campus and local community each year.

The College of Creative Arts is not just home to academic programs, it is a source of dynamic culture and energy for the entire campus and local community. The CCA hosts over 150 concerts a year in a variety of musical genres and styles. We showcase fully produced theatre in main stage and studio venues. Our galleries and the Art Museum feature up and coming American artists and international masterworks—in addition to visiting guest artists who perform, share their visual creations, or present lectures. During the academic school year, I venture to say that there is a different arts event every single night, whether you're into Seurat or Shakespeare, Dada or Dvorak.

As arts educators, scholars, and makers; we want to explore the myriad of ways that creativity impacts all academic disciplines; we want to show our students that a scientist (or elementary school teacher or software designer or accountant) is just as innovative as a poet or a painter because of the way they think. This year we are eager to showcase our big ideas and hope that the risk-taking and invention that goes into making any work of art—whether visual or performance-based—can explode “the possible.” Let’s explode and explore together...come play with us!

With best wishes,

Dr. Elizabeth Mullenix
