Faculty and Staff

Community of Learners

The Department of Art is, first and foremost, a community of learners. Our approximate student-to-teacher ratio of 15:1 creates an intimate classroom environment, and our out-of-class activities allow faculty, staff and students to become well acquainted. The interaction between students and faculty is positive and oriented toward the interest of the student, as witnessed by the following statements offered by students on their evaluation of their teacher.

"My professor's approach to teaching is not only based on her enthusiasm towards teaching and children, but about teaching how to teach and how to understand children. She really engages us and opens us to very similar environments we will find in school settings through 'mock' classroom experiences."

"My professor helped me grow as a student and as a person."

"I liked how my professor allowed for personal expression and creative approaches to assignments and projects. She always had new ideas, new ideas about everything."

"My professor was knowledgeable, approachable/accessible, challenging, clear/organized, and caring. She demonstrated a personal interest in individuals."

"My professor brings such a great personal interest with her to class. It is contagious, and it was clear that she wants to share her information. She is confident that she knows her stuff; her knowledge is very impressive. I hope to take another class from her. This was a great experience."

"My professor opened my eyes to a whole new way of thinking. He helped me to see what it takes to be an artist and how important my course work would be in my future life. He has the ability to point out what is weak with my piece, yet he leaves me with the confidence that I can improve through my mistakes. I have so much respect for him that I do not want to disappoint."
