Academics

The Department of Music provides professional training in music within the context of a liberal education at a major university. Our focus is undergraduate teaching, and the vast majority of music courses are taught by members of the faculty.

The Department of Music offers the following undergraduate degrees:

  • Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Performance, with concentrations in instrumental or vocal music
  • Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education, with concentrations in instrumental or vocal music
  • Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Composition
  • Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music

We also offer the following minors:

  • Minor in Music Performance, for non-Music majors
  • Minor in Music History, for non-Music majors
  • Minor in Music Composition, all majors
  • Minor in Music Theatre, for Music majors
  • Minor in Arts Management, for Music majors

At the level of graduate study, we offer:

  • Master of Music Degree in Music Performance, with concentrations in instrumental or vocal music
  • Master of Music Degree in Music Education, with concentrations in instrumental or vocal music

The Department of Music is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). All of Miami's programs in music education have been accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
