Using colored pencils, alcohol inks, markers, nail polish, and paint, students will learn the process to apply and retain color on copper and brass. Emphasis will also be on forming and shaping metal to create multi-layered dimensional jewelry that is beautiful, interesting and unusual.

Tuition does not cover the cost of supplies and materials. Many of the workshops require you to bring specific materials or tools with you.

Supply List

Supplies are subject to change. A final list will be emailed to each participant before the first day of class.

Instructor will provide a materials/supply kit. The following supplies are optional.

  • Prismacolor Premier Color Pencils (as many as students can afford)
  • special beads, pearls, chain, etc. that students might want to use in their projects.

Studio Fee

All workshops have a studio fee. Fees are collected at the end of the workshop and payable by check or credit card. MU no longer accepts cash.

Estimated studio fee for this workshop: $50-60*

*The final cost may vary depending on the actual cost of materials at the time of the workshop. It is possible for fees to be less or greater than the range indicated depending upon individual student usage.

About the Instructor

Mary Karg is a Contemporary Studio Jewelry Artist & Instructor. Her teaching experience includes the Art Academy of Cincinnati; Touch of Glass Studio, Asheville, NC; Bead & Button Show, Milwaukee, WI; Thompson Enamels, Bellevue, Ky; The Bead Shop, Madeira, Ohio; Beaded Bliss Designs, Harrison, Ohio as well as ongoing Color on Metal, Beadwork, and Flameworking workshops in the studio. Mary is usually plugging away in her studio in Loveland. Her work has graced the pages of Bead & Button, Lapidary Journal, 1000 Glass Beads, 500 Beaded Objects, Beads of Glass, Glass Bead Evolution and in exhibits and traveling shows.

Tuition for our graduate-level CraftSummer workshops is now significantly more affordable than in past years! Both Ohio and Non-Ohio students will pay only $280 per credit hour ($420 for a 1.5 credit hour course).
