Panelists for the League of Cincinnati Theatres (LCT) have recognized Gion DeFrancesco for his scenic design in Miami University’s production of Alan Ayckbourn's Communicating Doors. Directed by Lewis Magruder, Miami University Theatre's MainStage production was performed Nov. 19–23 in Gates-Abegglen Theatre. LCT panelists praised DeFrancesco’s “striking and realistic” set design as “a visual treat”.

DeFrancesco teaches courses at Miami in visual communication, scene design, scene painting and history of the American musical theatre. Since joining the Miami faculty in 2001 he has served as faculty scene designer and charge artist and, since 2003, has served as production manager. In January 2013, Gion was awarded the Gold Medallion from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region III, a national honor bestowed by the KCACTF Regional Board to those who have made extraordinary contributions to the teaching and producing of theatre and to the development and quality of the Kennedy Center’s American College Theatre Festival.

The League of Cincinnati Theatres was founded in 1999 to strengthen, nurture and promote Cincinnati’s theatre community.
