Architecture Alum Designs Dream Homes for Movie Stars

Duan TranCourtesy of Duan Tran Miami University architecture alum, Duan Tran '97, now spends his time designing homes for the likes of Tom Hanks as a partner at KAA design firm in Los Angeles.

Raised in Dayton, OH, Tran majored in environmental design at Miami. Tran worked for a design firm in Washington D.C. after graduating from Miami before completing his graduate degree at University of Southern California. He is the oldest of four younger siblings, and the son of two Vietnamese immigrants.

Tran says he enjoyed being able to experience a more culturally diverse campus at Miami than he experienced while growing up. He credits his parents for encouraging his creative work and says that they inspire him. Tran also gets his inspirations from movies such as "Blade Runner" and from architects like Richard Meier who designed the Getty Center in Los Angeles. Read more>>
