Miami senior to compete in area vocal competition

Steele Fitzwater headshotSteele Fitzwater, a senior at Miami, will be competing in Campus Superstar on Sunday, April 8th at 7:00 p.m on the Jarson-Kaplan stage at the Aronoff Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Steele is a vocal performance major with a fashion & design minor at Miami University. He serves as president of Miami University Fashion & Design club, is a member of the Chamber Singers, and studies voice with Benjamin Smolder, associate professor of voice at Miami. He has aspirations to become a professional opera singer and hopes to continue his education by applying to graduate schools for a master’s degree in opera performance.

Steele has had a number of lead roles in Miami music productions, including the upcoming production of Ghost Stories, playing the character of Death in the one-act opera, Savitri to be performed at Miami on March 1, 2 & 3 in Gates-Abegglen Theatre.

Campus Superstar is a solo vocal competition featuring the top regional talent from the area colleges. Over 100, full-time undergraduate student singers from all backgrounds, representing the full spectrum of musical genres, have auditioned at several venues throughout the Tri-State area.

Twelve finalists from Wright State University, Miami University, Northern Kentucky University, and University of Cincinnati have been selected to perform at the Campus Superstar Final Competition, accompanied by a full band and celebrity MC, New York actress Robbyne Kaamil.

Celebrity judges will narrow the field and the audience will select the $5,000 winner of the competition. As part of the celebratory evening, Cincinnati Hillel will be honoring community leader Dick Weiland for 50 years of service to the Greater Cincinnati community.

Regular tickets are $75, with specially-priced $35 tickets for those 35 and under. VIP tickets are available for $250, which includes VIP seating and a special reception in the Green Room at the Aronoff at 5:30 pm before the show. Special college student tickets are $10 can be purchased beginning March 25.

Proceeds from Campus Superstars will support Cincinnati Hillel's efforts to build bridges between interfaith and multi-cultural communities on the University of Cincinnati campus.
