Graduate School Admission

The Master of Science in Chemical Engineering is offered by the Chemical, Paper, and Biomedical Engineering Department. 

Graduation Requirements

For a Master of Science, you must:

  • Complete 24 credits (27 credits non-thesis option) of graduate level courses in Engineering as approved by the student's thesis advisor and the graduate director of the Chemical, Paper, and Biomedical Engineering Department. 
  • Required Courses:
    • CPB 551 Unit Operations Laboratory II 2 credits
    • CPB 611 Transport Phenomena in Engineering 3 credits
    • CPB/MME 612 Engineering Analysis 3 credits
    • Three Electives 16 credits (19 for non-thesis option)
  • Take CPB 600, graduate seminar, for each semester enrolled in the program (4 credits)
  • Complete a research thesis under the direction of a faculty advisor
    • Enroll for CPB 700 for a total of 6-10 credits.
    • Orally defend your thesis to the faculty of the CPB department
    • (Non-thesis option complete 3 hours of CPB 690 Graduate Research or CPB 710 Industrial Practicum)
  • Present a total of 34-semester hours of credit with a minimum GPA of 3.0

  • GRE scores
  • TOEFL scores (demonstrated proficiency in English or all non-US students)
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Personal statement of purpose
  • Resume

The Master's Degree must be completed within five calendar years, unless an extension of the time is granted through petition to the Graduate School. The normal time period for completion of the degree is two calendar years.
