Senior mechanical engineering students Zhicheng Rong and Chang Liu recently received a research award for their work in collaboration with Dr. Yingbin Hu. The undergraduate research award comes from the Office of Research for Undergraduates (ORU) and is given to students on an application basis.
The scholarship, endowed by alumni Jim and Jane Menditto, is given annually to undergraduate students in the MME department who have demonstrated high academic performance, as well as achievement outside the classroom.
Justinn Eddie graduated from Miami University in 2011 with a degree in both mechanical and manufacturing engineering. Now, Eddie works for the multi-billion dollar behemoth, Amazon.
Dr. Jason Berberich, Associate Professor in the CPB department, and Dr. Andrew Sommers, Associate Professor in the MME department, are the joint recipients of the award. The two have established collaborations with researchers both within and outside of Miami University.
Each year, the U.S. Department of Energy holds a Solar Decathlon, challenging college students to design and create energy-efficient buildings powered by renewable energy. Through this, students gain unique training for the workforce and are simultaneously educated in multiple aspects of energy efficiency.
This work illustrates a fundamental understanding of how mechanical stress affects the self-healing properties of polymers, and the potential for dynamic chemistry to be activated by mechanical forces.
The patent, titled Nano/micro scale porous structured alloys using selective alloying process based on elemental powders, took approximately four years to complete. He began the process while he was earning his master's degree at The University of Texas System.
Brown, a junior mechanical engineering major, was one of only 22 students accepted into the Petroleum Division of the council. These are both undergraduate as well as graduate students who have expressed interest in the oil and gas industry as a potential career path.
