Arthur Olson Generational Outstanding Teaching Excellence Award

Kumar Singh has been a dedicated teacher and researcher since joining Miami University in 2006. He received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1997 from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, in India. In May 2003, he completed his doctorate in mechanical engineering at Louisiana State University. Dr. Singh was inducted as an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Associate Fellows Class of 2017.

His research focuses on inverse eigenvalue problems related to multidisciplinary areas of structural vibration and control. In the area of aerospace sciences, Singh has developed active aeroelastic control strategies, collaborating with researchers at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s Multidisciplinary Science and Technology Center.
Kumar has integrated his teaching with scholarship through his efforts on the Computational-Experimental (ComEx) project. He has developed several learning modules to introduce experimental data analysis and computational validation of concepts in a creative and innovative online format which is available in an open source manner to challenge a broad community of learners. The Air Force Research Lab and National Science Foundation support his research.

Professor Kumar has supervised 16 undergraduate students through USS, OSGC and independent studies, and has published ten articles with student co-authors. He has contributed to student learning through senior capstone projects, often with an industry client. Furthermore, he has enhanced the Masters level education of several students as a teacher, advisor, and mentor.

Singh is the author/co-author of more than 75 peer-reviewed international journal and conference articles.

Kumar Singh lives in Mason, Ohio with his wife Sangeeta and daughter Shreya. In his spare time he likes to play racquet sports (badminton, racquetball, and tennis) and spending time with friends and family. He loves traveling to new places and enjoys movies, music, and reading about history and cultures.
