American students in the Summer School

The Gazzetta del Sud ran an online story about the students and faculty of Miami University who were guests of the department of mathematics and computer science at the University of Calabria. This opportunity was offered by the UC Summer School on the topic of artificial intelligence.

This workshop was attended by students from all over the world who were eager to succeed in the knowledge society and advanced technology. The opportunity offered by Summer School on “Knowledge Representation and Reasoning,” a fundamental field of Artificial Intelligence, was the latest major initiative of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at University of Calabria, which was directed by Professor Nicola Leone.

Miami University students and faculty were the guests of the program and sited as “one of the best educational institutions overseas.”

The choice of Arcavacata was not accidental, since it is one of the most coveted places in the world where it is possible to deepen the knowledge representation and automated reasoning, and is also home to the department leader in the field of logic programming disgiuntiva.

The presence of the Unical American students marked a cooperation agreement signed by the two universities, for an international conference on the theme of logic programming and non-monotonic reasoning. 

Professor and Chair of the Computer Science and Software Engineering Department, James Kiper and Daniela Inclezan, Assistant Professor of same department, together with Dr. Francesco Ricca, a researcher in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Calabria, oversaw the agreement between the two universities with the invaluable support of their respective offices for international relations. 

The relationship between the University of Calabria and Miami University will promote and enhance the internationalization of the University of Calabria. Rector Gino Mirocle Crisci identified this relationship as an element at the top of his agenda.
