Paper Engineering and Triathlons a Strong Mix

Triathlete and Paper Chemical Sales a Strong Mix

Erica Suding, a 2007 PSE alumna, currently works as an account manager with Solenis. But what you might not guess by first looking at her is that Erica does triathlons in her free time.

She first became interested in the paper science field after interviewing her cousin, who was a chemical engineer at Procter & Gamble. After the interview, she spoke with a faculty member about the paper science program, and was immediately sold on the idea after her meeting.

Erica was lucky enough to receive several scholarships from the Paper Science and Engineering Foundation (PSEF) during her time as an undergraduate, including a Williams Leadership Scholarship. She was also a member of Miami’s TAPPI chapter (Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry) and travelled to thei organization’s annual student conferences.

After graduation, she took a job with Solenis and now lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Several of her friends invited her to start running with a local running club. Erica already enjoyed swimming and biking, so deciding to do a triathlon was a natural progression.

Her biggest athletic accomplishment was finishing a half Ironman in less than six and a half hours, and she plans to do another in 2016.

Good luck to Erica in both her future career and athletic endeavors!
