2016 Arthur Olson Teaching Excellence Award

Dean Marek Dollar announced Dr. Dmitriy Garmatyuk as the recipient of the 2016 Arthur Olson Generational Teaching Excellence Award. Dr. Garmatyuk is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and has been at Miami since 2005.

As chair of the Department of Electrical and Computing Engineering, Dr. Zhou points out that "Dr. Garmatyuk's teaching has been evaluated as excellent by both his students and peers, and has been recognized by the IEEE's student honor society through its national C. Holmes MacDonald Outstanding Teaching Award. Furthermore, Dr. Garmatyuk has had a major National Science Foundation curriculum grant which resulted in several publications in the scholarship of teaching and learning. We appreciate his investments of time and effort in designing new courses and course materials, and in advising more than 20 student projects, including capstone courses, theses, and undergraduate summer scholars. With this award, we recognize his commitment to excellent undergraduate and graduate education."

This year's Award Selection Committee consisted of Bo Brinkman, Michael Bailey-Van Kuren, and Mike Zmuda. The award will be presented at the 2016 Recognition Ceremony on May 14 at the Goggin Ice Center.
