CEC faculty member is honored with William Holmes McGuffey Award

Every year Miami’s Alumni Association honors faculty and alumni for their impact on the Miami community. One of the awards is called the William Holmes McGuffey Award. This year our very own Doug Troy, the Director of the Socially Engaged Engineering and Computer Initiatives and Director of Graduate Programs, was the recipient.

This award is given to a faculty or staff member who has been able to extend their impact beyond the traditional expectations for education. This award has been given out each year to a deserving member of the Miami community since 1983.

Troy was nominated by Jon Puz '03 and Disha Patel '02, who described Troy as "an inspiration to the department and the school," "both a professor and a mentor," and "a warm, friendly, compassionate adviser." Both Puz and Patel continued to speak about Troy's leadership, commitment to his work, and his ability to prioritize helping students succeed.

Troy will be given this award and recognized at the annual Advancement Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 3rd at 6pm. They will be celebrating not only Troy, but the other recipients of Alumni Association’s awards to Miamians who have had a huge impact on the university and its community.

We are so proud of Troy and his accomplishment and we cannot wait to see his continued impact on Miami’s community in the future.
