Certificate in College Teaching

Purpose

The purpose of offering a certificate in College Teaching is to provide graduate students and postdoctoral fellows with the opportunity to develop their pedagogical knowledge and skill in an interdisciplinary manner that facilitates the development of teacher-scholars.

Program Structure

The Certificate in College Teaching will consist of a variety of course work and experiences guided by a student's mentor. Students will select a mentor and develop a plan of study that addresses three major components: discipline specific teaching experience/study, interdisciplinary pedagogy, and instructional/learning theory.

Procedures

Students will apply to the Certificate in College Teaching by submitting a signed Plan of Study (which serves as the application) to the College Teaching Certificate Committee. Completed plans of study should be submitted to the Graduate School, 102 Roudebush Hall. Upon the completion of the program plan, the student and mentor will submit a statement indicating that the program plan was completed, including a self-assessment by the student and an assessment by the mentor, to the College Teaching Certificate Committee, who determines if the student has completed all program requirements.

Students will NOT receive a State of Ohio license for teaching.

GSC 602 and 603 will meet from 7-9 pm on selected Wednesdays.

Deadlines

Application (plan of study) for Spring 2018 entrance due: October 2, 2017, 5 pm

Completion form for Fall 2017 due: November 27, 2017, 5 pm

Application (plan of study) for Fall 2018 entrance due: March 30, 2018, 5 pm

Completion form for Spring 2018 due: April 30, 2018, 5 pm
