Miami student among winners of international film competition

Research at Miami University on how fungal spores travel in order to survive received national attention at the beginning of the year. Now the video of the research has won an award in an international competition by ChloroFilms, a project designed to encourage creative ways to learn about plant biology.

Allan Allenspach, former professor of zoology at Miami, is block captain for the oyster gardening program in Bethany, Delaware, which allows volunteers to grow oysters in order to help filter water in the inland bays.

The state of Ohio has cut $224 million from the Ohio College Opportunity Grant, the state's top need-based grant program. Miami plans to make up the lost state money with institutional grants at the main, but not branch campuses. Miami's plan will cover the fall semester.
