Miami first-year students enter during Bicentennial

Most of Miami University's 3,220 first-year students will move to campus Thursday, Aug. 20. Staff and student volunteers, in addition to Miami President David Hodge and Mrs. Valerie Hodge, will be on hand as usual to greet, direct, sign-in and carry boxes for students and families.


Case of bottled water easier to carry to college than a cow

As most of Miami University's 3,220 first-year students move into their residence halls Thursday (Aug. 20), their muscle-fatigued parents helping to cart in the books, clothes and computers might start longing for the days when students coming to college by horse or on foot brought only what they could carry in a satchel or a trunk, if they were fortunate enough to hitch a ride on a wagon.

Art museum opens new exhibitions Aug. 20 and 27

The Miami University Art Museum honors Miami's 200th year by showcasing more than 200 objects from its permanent collection. Organized into five thematic topics, each exhibition offers a different conceptual framework and a mixture of time periods, places of origin, materials and techniques. "Ring of Truth" opens Thursday, Aug. 20, and "Compositions in Black and White" opens Thursday, Aug. 27.
