At 200 years, university examines future of education

Miami University will hold a two-day Bicentennial Symposium, "The Engaged University: The Vision for the Next Centennial," Sept. 23-24 in the Phillip R. Shriver Center. The symposium will encourage a universitywide discussion about engaged learning and the future of undergraduate education in the 21st century.

Art museum hosts "200 at 200" opening reception

The Miami University Art Museum's opening reception for "200 at 200" will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3. The museum honors Miami's 200th year by showcasing more than 200 objects from its permanent collection.

Single transferable voting system explained

(Editor's note: This article, which first appeared in The Miami University Report Dec. 7, 1989, is reprinted here to explain the single transferable voting system.) The single transferable vote system is used in many Miami governance elections. While the voting system is complex, its goal is simple - to make as many people's votes count as equally as possible in electing someone.
