Jon Yamashiro named "Effective Educator"

Jon Yamashiro, associate professor of art at Miami University, is the 2009-2010 recipient of Miami's Effective Educator Award. He will receive the Alumni Association's award during the third-quarter break in the Miami-University of Kentucky football game at Cincinnati's Paul Brown Stadium Saturday, Sept. 5.


Miami maintains tuition freeze through May

Miami University officials are proposing to trustees that the school keep tuition frozen for Ohio students through the fall and spring semesters 2009-2010, but that Miami increase tuition by 3.5 percent for summer sessions.


Miami senior awarded $30,000 scholarship

Lauren Hucek, a senior interior design major at Miami University, is one of 13 recipients nationwide of the 2009 Angelo Donghia Foundation Senior Scholarship award competition. The $30,000 scholarship was awarded based on a juried competition of portfolio submissions of a residential or a commercial project design.

New programs offered for second-year students

The office of second year programs invites Miami sophomores for its first sophomore retreat Sept. 18-19 - an overnight, off-campus event where students attend sessions geared toward helping them avoid the "sophomore slump." The retreat is just one of many new programs designed for second-year students.


Trustee academic/student affairs meeting Friday

The academic/student affairs committee of the Miami University board of trustees meets at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, in 104 Roudebush Hall.
