Miami University won two gold awards and one honorable mention in the large school category of the 2009 Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards sponsored by the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS). The two gold awards each won the grand prize for their respective categories. Miami has been honored by the association each year since 2004 and holds the record for most awards received by any institution in North America.

Tom Miller, a widely published travel writer will conduct a question-and-answer session at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, in 337 Bachelor Hall at Miami University. The event is free and open to the public.
Yu Tong (Jade) Morton, professor of electrical and computer engineering and the 2009 Sigma Xi Researcher of the Year, will present "The Global Positioning System: Past, Present and Future" at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, in 25 Farmer School of Business.
Lena Vigna, curator of exhibitions at the Miami University Art Museum, will present a gallery talk on "Figure and Form: The Body as Subject and Object" at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at the art museum.

Miami University officials are proposing to trustees that the school keep tuition frozen for Ohio students through the fall and spring semesters for 2009-10 and that tuition be increased by 3.5 percent for 2010 summer sessions. Ohio's public universities and research institutions now have more incentive to create startup companies to commercialize their discoveries thanks to a law passed this summer as part of the state's budget bill. The law allows the 14 universities and more than 20 community colleges in the University System of Ohio to take equity stakes in newly formed companies in lieu of a cash payment for technology licenses.
