Last winter there were five significant snow/ice events in Butler County from Dec. 12-Feb. 2. The official NOAA winter 2011-2012 outlook for the Ohio valley calls for wetter than average conditions with equal chances for above-, near-, or below-average temperatures, and potential for increased storminess and flooding.
With this in mind, Miami encourages faculty, staff and students to prepare for winter weather.
Miami University first-year student Tohru Kamiya of Japan took top honors at the Pearson COM 135 Speech Showcase held Wednesday, Dec. 7. His persuasive speech, "Why Everyone Should Use Chopsticks," bested seven other speakers in the department of communication's annual event.
