Miami University Libraries, in celebration of Open Access Week (Oct. 22-26), host a symposium Tuesday, Oct. 23, focusing on digital humanities - taking the more traditional humanities research and adding data driven techniques more common to the empirical social sciences.
Capitol Steps ("We Put the 'MOCK' in Democracy") - a former group of Senate staffers who now set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them - are on the road and following their sold-out 2008 performance at Miami. They will perform twice, at 2 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28, in Hall Auditorium, part of the Miami University Performing Arts Series.

Miami University faculty and staff can now receive free health care on campus at the new Miami Convenient Care Clinic. Open to employees and their families covered under the Miami University healthcare plan, the clinic can be reached through the north entrance of the student health center, 421 S. Campus Avenue.
Miami is partnering with Google to provide faculty and staff the Google Apps for Education, including Gmail to manage email accounts, Google Calendar and a range of other Google tools. The new system brings many benefits, including an extraordinary 25-gigabyte quota per individual for storage.
Jen Waller values access to information, and she is now an advocate. As interdisciplinary librarian and international studies librarian at Miami's King Library, Waller chairs a committee that promotes open access to scholarly research. Next week, Miami's libraries host a series of events for Open Access (OA) Week, Oct. 22-26.

Pansy Chang Cello Recital Sunday
Pansy Chang, associate professor of violincello, will give a recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, in Souers Recital Hall. She will perform works for solo cello by J.S. Bach, Gyorgy Ligeti and Benjamin Britten. Chang performs regularly with the Portland, Oregon-based band Pink Martini.
