Miami part of EarthScope: Continental scale seismic observatory

Miami University has joined the continent-wide EarthScope project with the recent installation of an EarthScope Transportable Array seismic station at the Ecology Research Center. EarthScope is a National Science Foundation (NSF) program to study the structure and evolution of the North American continent by installing hundreds of ultra-sensitive seismometers, GPS stations and other scientific instruments across the United States. Stacey Lowery Bretz named ACS Fellow

Stacey Lowery Bretz, professor of chemistry and biochemistry at Miami University, has been named a 2012 Fellow of the American Chemical Society (ACS). She is one of 96 Fellows selected for 2012, announced in the July 23 issue of Chemical & Engineering News, the weekly magazine of ACS.

Ann Larson named director of admission

Ann Larson has been appointed to director of admission. Ann has served as the interim director of admission since June 2010, and has held various roles in the office of admission for more than 27 years.

Miami students spending summer studying abroad

More than 1,300 Miami University students are studying abroad this summer in more than 30 different countries, an increase of four percent from summer 2011.

  • Network and Internet service disruption
    Upgrades and testing of the equipment that provides Internet connectivity will be held between 7 p.m. and midnight Saturday, July 28. IT services said the work will be completed in two phases during the outage window: 7 p.m.-9 p.m., an outage of 30 minutes is likely during this period of equipment reconfiguration and upgrade; and 9 p.m.- midnight, brief service disruptions of 5 to 10 minutes are possible for testing. During the service disruptions, no network services will be available and the Internet will not be accessible on campus. Contact ithelp@muohio.edu with questions.
