Miami University’s Department of Educational Psychology offers educators and other related service personnel a valuable professional development certificate with practical classroom applications. Students will develop a broad and updated knowledge base in current research & trends, methods for classroom instruction, understanding and developing approaches to social-emotional and communicative skills, and methods for behavior support & intervention. This non-sequential, 4-course online certificate program addresses the following topics:

  • Current research and trends
  • Methods for classroom instruction
  • Approaches to social-emotional & communicative skills
  • Methods for behavior support & intervention

Graduate Courses: (12 credits total)

EDP 584 – Autism Spectrum Disorder: Social and Communication Development
EDP 582 – Autism Spectrum Disorder: Best Practice in Teaching Strategies
EDP 579 – Autism: Introduction and Current Research
EDP 585 – Autism Spectrum Disorder: Positive Behavior Supports and Interventions

Courses may be taken in any order and are offered in all academic terms (fall, winter, spring and summer). Courses are taught entirely online.


The certificate is available to current and newly admitted Miami graduate students, without regard to their degree-seeking status. Current Miami degree-seekers (including combined degree students) apply using the link on the Graduate Student Association Canvas site. All other applicants apply using the Graduate School's application. Students must be admitted to the certificate program prior to taking courses for certification.

Non-Degree/Graduate Certificate applicants must list their undergraduate institution, degree and other relevant information. They must also have earned at least a 3.0 cumulative undergraduate degree GPA. Degree seeking (Masters, Doctoral) applicants must list in chronological order all colleges, universities and professional schools attended (include courses taken and degrees earned at Miami University). On page 3 of the application, applicants will be required to upload transcripts from each institution. Degree-seekers must fulfill all admission requirements set forth on the Graduate School's admission page.

Tuition and Financial Assistance

Program tuition and fees are dependent upon residency, term and course of study. Please visit the One Stop for Student Success Services website for details regarding tuition and fees.
