Program Admission

Our application process is competitive and we receive many more applications than we can accept each year.  Please note that the School Psychology program admits only full-time students.  We strive to provide assistantship support to all of our students (see section on Graduate Assistantships).  Please see below for important application procedures.  We encourage students with cultural and individual diversity to apply to the program.

To be admitted to the School Psychology program, you first must apply to Miami University’s Graduate School. All application materials should be uploaded via your application portal.

  • Official transcripts (undergraduate and graduate) from all colleges and universities attended.
  • Be sure to indicate on the online application if you are interested in an assistantship.
  • Three professional letters of reference from faculty or other persons who can provide information about your potential for graduate study and your interpersonal skills.
  • Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score. Registration information for the exam is at www.ets.org. Please request that your scores be sent directly to Miami University (code R1463) and indicate School Psychology as the department code name. Only the General test is required, not the Subject test.
  • A resume detailing your education and work experience.
  • An essay stating your reasons for pursuing the degree. Please tell us about your goals and why you are seeking admission to Miami’s program. The essay should be a minimum of 500 words.

If you experience difficulty with uploading documents or for more information contact Jennifer Turner, Administrative Assistant at hillje@MiamiOH.edu; you may also feel free to contact Dr. Amity Noltemeyer, Program Coordinator & Assistant Professor, at anoltemeyer@MiamiOH.edu.

Admissions Deadlines and Selection Process
Completed applications should be received by Jan. 15 to be considered for fall admission. In order to facilitate admission, you should submit all application materials prior to the deadline. You may check with Jennifer Turner, Administrative Assistant, hillje@MiamiOH.edu at any time concerning missing items or the status of your application.

We are a competitive program and we typically accept 10-12 students per cohort.
Applicants are evaluated based on:

  • academic record
  • written goals and purpose
  • previous related work or experiences
  • letters of recommendation
  • GRE scores
School psychology faculty will begin to review applicants on or before the January 15th deadline. After the deadline, finalists will be selected and invited to on-campus interviews with faculty, staff, and current students in late January or early February.  The on-campus interviews typically take place during a single Interview Day, which consists of (1) an orientation to the program, (2) individual and group interviews with faculty, staff, and current students, (3) a tour of the McGuffey Hall facility and Miami University campus, and (4) a catered lunch.  Final decisions about the acceptance of candidates for admission into the program will be made in February or March.
