September SEOH News

Fall Q-term

The fall Q-term begins in fewer than two weeks! Enrolled students will be able to access the SEOH courses in Canvas on September 12, and new students will begin the self-paced course orientation activities. [Be sure to update your profile!] Coursework will not commence until our first fall live session on September 24. The 2 weeks between the start of the term and the first live session will allow new students to acclimate to the online course management system, complete the activities, and prepare themselves to get off to a great start on the 24th!

September Live Session Schedule

10:15AM–11:45AM, EDP 595

10:45AM–12:15PM, EDP 667
12:30PM–2:00PM, EDP 651

Students attending the sessions at VOA must sign in upon arrival. See our website for future live sessions dates for the 2016-2017 academic year.

Attendance Policy

Consistent with the Miami University Graduate Student Handbook, “Every student is expected to attend every class session for which the student is duly registered.” Because there are so few class meetings/live sessions, the importance of them is more significant than in traditional courses. Instructors may choose to incorporate various types of course activities during the sessions, thus any absence from these sessions diminishes the learning opportunity for students and may impact the final grade for the course. Please consult the SEOH student handbook for the program attendance policy and your responsibilities regarding absences.

Winter Registration

The SEOH program office has been informed that any student admitted in the summer 2016 or fall 2016 semesters will be unable to register for the winter 2017 semester until September 20. Any student having difficulty registering after September 20 should contact the One Stop office.

Job Search

Students interested in employment services are encouraged to register with Miami's CAREERlink database. It contains job openings from local, national, and international organizations, and is maintained by Career Services. It also serves as the portal through which students schedule appointments with their career advisors and mock interviewers, and is the first place to check for fairs, interviews, and other career-related events on campus.

One position that may not be found on CAREERlink is with Deer Park Community School District. Deer Park will have a long term, K-12 Mild/Moderate substitute position available in February. Anyone interested in this position should contact Dave Bergan, Director of Student Services, for more information.

Prospective Student Visits

Prospective students interested in learning more about joining the licensure program cohort in the spring are encouraged to contact the SEOH Program Office. For anyone wishing to see our Voice of America Learning Center facilities and possibly sit-in on a class, we are now making appointments for Saturday, September 24. Additional meetings at other times are also available.
