January SEOH Program News

Academic Terms

When considering matters related to course registration dates and deadlines, it's important to note that the SEOH program courses do not coincide with the university's full term calendar. For example, the university's full spring term begins January 23, while the SEOH spring term does not begin until March 6. The SEOH spring term dates and deadlines follow the "W-term" sprint schedule. You may find the entire Miami University 2016-2017 academic calendar online.

Spring Registration and Financial Aid

Many of you have already registered for the spring semester. For those of you who haven't yet registered, you may do so online through March 7. An elective reading course, EDT 642 is offered in the spring semester. Consult your program plan of study to confirm which courses are needed to satisfy your individual program requirements. Please contact the SEOH office for advising questions.

While you may register for spring through March 7, if you wish to receive federal financial assistance for spring, you must be fully registered for spring by February 9. New students beginning this spring who wish to receive aid should have their FAFSAs, alternative program forms and plans of study (for licensure-only students) on file with the One Stop office by February 1. Please contact the One Stop office regarding financial assistance and disbursement information.

Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program

If you are a teacher and also a new borrower (i.e., you did not have an outstanding balance on a Direct Loan or FFEL Program loan on Oct. 1, 1998, or on the date you obtained a Direct Loan or FFEL Program loan after Oct. 1, 1998) and have been teaching full-time in a low-income elementary or secondary school or educational service agency for five consecutive years, you may be able to have as much as $17,500 of your subsidized or unsubsidized loans forgiven. For more information, go to Teacher Loan Forgiveness.

Therefore , if you ever need to miss a live session for illness or another emergency, you have responsibilities regarding your absence per the SEOH Student Handbook attendance policy.
