Social work student chosen to research mental health in Ukraine

Mary Martin

Senior social work student Mary Martin has been chosen to participate in research with the National Science Foundation (NSF) this summer to study mental health in Ukraine. Mary will be actively involved with other students in an ongoing research project exploring the mental health of Ukrainian citizens based on a comprehensive, population-based survey of nearly 5,000 Ukrainians.

"I haven't had a chance to study abroad during my time at Miami, and I'm very passionate about the mental health research they are conducting," Martin said.

This is a tremendous project given the nature of ongoing trauma in Ukraine. Mary was specifically selected for this position when she applied for another summer research study that she did not seek out, but the NSF invited her to participate based on her credentials.

Congratulations, Mary!
